15 UK airports offer little-known service to get around liquids rule | Travel News | Travel
Passengers travelling abroad with children can take advantage of a little-known service at 15 airports across the UK that allows you to bypass a liquids rule.
Going on holiday with young children can be stressful and it typically comes with a lot of extra baggage, but with a unique click and collect service run through Boots, parents don’t have to worry about packing certain items in their hand luggage. Through the click and collect service, passengers can pre-order baby milk, and other essentials, in advance of their flight and pick this up in the airport terminal after clearing security. While government rules state there is no legal limit to how much baby milk passengers can take on flights, parents will be subject to strict screenings at security.
Parents can take breast milk in individual containers of up to 2,000ml in their hand luggage, and as much formula milk as needed for the duration of a journey, but each milk container will need to be screened at the security point and airport staff may need to open the containers to do this.
But with the Boots collection service, parents don’t have to worry about this extra stress at security and can bypass this screening process by picking up their baby milk in the airport terminal instead.
Boots offers the service after security in the following 15 UK airports:
- Aberdeen
- Birmingham
- Bristol
- East Midlands
- Edinburgh
- Gatwick North and South
- Glasgow
- Heathrow (Terminal 2, 3, 4 and 5)
- Leeds Bradford
- Liverpool
- London City
- Luton
- Manchester (Terminal 1, 2 and 3)
- Newcastle
- Stansted
Passengers can place their order from two weeks before their departure, but are advised to select a delivery date that is three days prior to their flight date to allow Boots enough time to prepare the items.
Boots explains: “Select a delivery date three days before your flight to allow us to prepare your parcel in time. Remember to select the airport store located after security.
“We’ll send you an order confirmation once your order’s been confirmed and a text when it’s ready to collect. We’ll keep your order for seven days from your chosen delivery date, so no need to worry if you get your text early.
“When you are through security, visit Boots and one of our helpful colleagues will retrieve your parcel for you. Now you’re good to go, time to have a safe flight and a great time away!”
It’s also possible for parents to pre-order medication that their baby might need using the service and collect this after security.
Manchester Airport, which offers the Boost service in Terminal 1, 2 and 3, adds: “If your child needs medication while you’re at the airport, or if you need ready-to-drink infant milk for your holiday, you can pre-order it before you travel and collect it from Boots after security check-in.”
