Nick Kyrgios has taken a brutal swipe at the pundit who will replace him on the BBC at Wimbledon this year. The 30-year-old Australian was a popular debutant in the commentary box at SW19 in 2024, having been ruled out of competing after wrist surgery.

He’s returned to the ATP Tour this season but was forced to miss the French Open with a knee problem. The 2022 finalist hoped to be fit in time to play at the All England Club, but has since confirmed he won’t be entering after suffering a “small setback” in his recovery. That development had fuelled speculation he would be back with Beeb as a pundit when the tournament gets underway on June 30.

However, he has been dropped by the BBC.In an interview with the Guardian, Kyrgios has revealed his replacement. He claimed the broadcaster would instead be using Chris Eubanks, currently ranked No.108 in the world, and made a brutal comparison over their respective professional records.

“It’s unfortunate but it’s probably their loss more than mine,” he said. “I understand they’ve got Chris Eubanks but he hasn’t beaten the greatest of all time multiple times.

“When someone’s beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it’s very strange you wouldn’t want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.”

Eubanks, 29, reached the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon two years ago, his best ever effort in a Grand Slam. His presence is not likely to court the same publicity granted to the charismatcis Kyrgios, who also provded analysis for Tennis TV during his injury lay-off.

The BBC has yet to officially confirm its line-up for its 2025 coverage, with Kyrgios appearing to leak the news of his replacement prematurely. Despite his apparent setback, the Canberra-based star did imply he would be back with the broadcaster in the future.

Cutting a more diplomatic tone, he added: “I’m sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere.”
