Meghan Markle’s brutal 3-word swipe at Princess Kate reveals why friendship was ‘doomed’ | Royal | News
Meghan Markle and Princess Kate may be sister-in-laws, but it is safe to say that the pair have not exactly seen eye to eye over the years. Since quitting royal life in 2020, Meghan, 43, and Prince Harry, 40, have not held back from criticising both royal life and some members of the Royal Family too.
One example of this is in their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, where they addressed the infamous bridesmaid row between Meghan and Princess Kate, 43. The row, which was believed to be over Princess Charlotte’s dress for Meghan and Harry’s wedding not fitting correctly, reportedly saw Meghan upset Kate. However Meghan claimed that it was in fact the other way around.
While this rumoured argument was widely reported at the time, that situation is reportedly not the only problem Meghan and Kate experienced.
It was reported by The Telegraph last year that the Duchess of Sussex was also reportedly upset in 2019 when she found herself behind Kate in the queue for the latest outfits from a top designer.
Meghan, who was a fan of British designer Erdem Moraloglu’s clothes before becoming a royal, reportedly wanted more clothes from the designer, but Princess Kate was first in line.
This reportedly caused tensions between the pair, with Meghan allegedly making a brutal three-word swipe at Princess Kate which showed one of the ongoing sources of tension between the sister-in-laws.
As reported by The Telegraph, Meghan questioned why William’s wife, who is a future Queen was given priority over her, reportedly saying Kate “wasn’t even Queen”.
It is believed the hierarchy of the sister-in-laws, based on their royal positions, may have been one of the sources of tension between them.
Meghan also once suggested herself that their personalities were different, claiming that she was a “hugger” but this was “jarring” for British people, a dig suggesting Kate may not have engaged with the hugging gesture.
Speaking on the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, the duchess said: “Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time, I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot.
“Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger. I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”
