Beautiful European island a ‘smaller Mykonos’ named best in world | Travel News | Travel
A stunning European island, which is known for its golden beaches, whitewashed villages, and laid-back charm, has been named the “best in the world”. The Greek island of Paros has been compared to its neighbour and more popular Mykonos by several travellers who have been left mesmerised by its beauty.
Each year, Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Islands list highlights the top global destinations, as voted by thousands of readers. Paros, nestled in the Cyclades, soared from 24th place last year to claim the coveted top spot in 2025. Readers of Travel + Leisure praised Paros for its mouthwatering cuisine and the idyllic charm of its blue-and-white villages, particularly Naoussa.
The island’s popularity was reflected in its impressive score of 96.50 out of 100. One of the most popular towns on the island is Naoussa, which is the second largest on the island and has been called a “smaller version of Mykonos”, reports The Sun.
The island’s capital, Parikia, and main port, are home to the impressive Panagia Ekatontapiliani church and charming old town alleys. It has a domestic airport with flights from Athens, but no international airport – which helps preserve its peaceful vibe.
Paros boasts a captivating historical legacy, shaped by centuries of cultural and architectural influence. From its renowned ancient marble quarries that once supplied material for iconic sculptures, to the remnants of Venetian castles and intricately preserved Byzantine churches, the island reflects a rich tapestry of civilizations.
Visitors can explore this heritage further at the Archaeological Museum of Paros, where artifacts dating as far back as the Neolithic period offer a glimpse into the island’s deep-rooted past.
One of the travellers commented on TripAdvisor forum: “We were in Paros island this summer. Its really a great place for summer vacation. Noussa is the correct town to be chosen. You can pick a hotel there.
“The bar, street and the restaurants were great. For the hotels, I can recommend Chora Hotel; which is not on the beach but with a very good swimming pool and service.”
A second person commented: “Sun, beaches, and sand – oh, I love it from the time I spent my holiday in Greece. Greece is an island country, and each and every island is very beautiful! Paros is four hours away from Athens via ferry.
“I love Paros so much.. very clean, nice water, and beaches it has! I’m in love with that island. Very nice place to go around, food, restaurants, cafes, and many more things. They have a little ferry trip to go from one island to other.
“If you want your holiday to be memorable, I would say must visit Paros island in Greece. In Greece, they take care of their islands and beaches so much. People are very friendly and helpful around the island.”
