Campsite with ‘fairytale’ waterfall in ‘paradise’ spot among UK’s best | Travel News | Travel

A Welsh campsite described as being in an “out of this world” location has been celebrated as one of the UK’s finest. Situated by a river and near a waterfall, the woodland retreat within Eryri National Park is imbued with a “fairytale” charm, according to enchanted guests.

Nantcol Waterfalls takes pride of place on a selective roster of 150 exceptional sites listed by Campsites.co.uk. Boasting a directory of over 3,200 camping spots, the inclusion underscores North Wales’ reputation as a premium staycation destination, given that 19 other local campsites also made the cut. Tucked away in the majestic Rhinog mountains, Nantcol Waterfalls offers a unique blend of mountain tranquility and coastal bliss.

The site is straddled by the flowing Afon Nantcol, perfect for a leisurely paddle, a refreshing swim or some casual angling. The site’s namesake waterfall is a mere 100 metres from the pitches.

It is merely a stone’s throw from Shell Island’s golden shores at Llanbedr which was recently crowned the best beach in Wales by The Times and Sunday Times Best UK Beaches Guide.

Visitors can embrace the great outdoors with mod-cons thanks to glamping pods equipped with TV, underfloor heating, WiFi, and even rentable firepits, reports North Wales Live.

Having seized the title of the UK’s number one campsite last year, Nantcol Waterfalls continues to captivate visitors, as reflected in its 4.89-star guest rating.

One visitor effused: “Only noise you can hear are the birds, river and odd sheep. It really is a peace of paradise, we didn’t want to come home.”

Another camper shared their joy, stating: “We’ve officially found our happy place. The site is so well maintained, sustainable, and focused on preserving the beauty of nature.”

Nantcol Waterfalls offers optional electric grass pitches for tents and tourers, in addition to waterside bell tents and luxury glamping pods. New additions this year include a wood-fired sauna and motorhome hire.
