‘Fairytale’ UK city with amazing landmarks that’s very walkable too | UK | Travel
Britain boasts so many lovely cities, towns and villages, with many offering excellent walkability and secret gems waiting to be uncovered. But one standout location secured a position among the world’s most pedestrian-friendly cities.
Claiming sixth place according to investment platform Insider Monkey, Edinburgh continues to wow tourists with its extraordinary charm. This comes as little surprise, given Scotland’s capital is home to a UNESCO World Heritage-designated Old Town amongst its top attractions. As well as this, the enchanting and legendary cobblestone pathways overflow with medieval structures and sit mere steps away from internationally renowned landmarks including Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.
The city also features plenty of stunning green spaces, including Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Botanic Garden, ideal for relaxed wanderings surrounded by natural beauty.
Cultural enthusiasts will find key attractions, such as the National Museum of Scotland, the Scottish Parliament, and many other art venues, all strategically positioned for straightforward exploration on foot.
Visitors have gushed about their adventures in this captivating destination, with one declaring that one area – Dean Village – was like a ‘fairytale’. They said: “Just by walking a while, the city gives it’s place to a majestic neighborhood ideal for exploring.”
Reflecting on a past trip, another Tripadvisor user wrote: “I was expecting an amazing city and Edinburgh didn’t disappoint me at all.
“The weather has been horrible, snow, rain, wind, bony cold…the lot, but even in these bad conditions the city is gloriously beautiful.
“The old city has still the magic atmosphere of Kings, Queens, knights and pheasants. It is so well kept that it is easy to imagine the medieval life amongst its narrow streets and alleys.”
Another added: “One of the best cities I’ve ever been too! Very relaxing and the people are really nice. Plenty of things to do! Two days are not enough, you need a week. Would definitely come back again!”
That reviewer also recommended the Christmas period as one of the best times of the year to visit Edinburgh.
The Scottish capital stands as a celebrated holiday destination for those seeking festive entertainment, hosting an hugely popular Christmas market that draws tourists from around the world.
However, it’s also an unmissable location during the Fringe festival, which takes place during the month of August – so if you’re looking to plan a last-minute trip, then Edinburgh is the place to be.
