Cold weather maps show huge snow barrage smashing into UK in days | Weather | News
Plummeting temperatures and a snow barrageĀ are set to hit the UK within days, according to weather maps, with between 1 and 3cm of snow falling per hour over parts of Scotland on Tuesday night. This could bring the risk of icy conditions as the country wakes up to freezing temperatures.
WXCharts predicts snow will fall over Scotland from midnight, while the majority of England, down to Cambridgeshire, will be battered with rain. The snow has been forecast until at least 3am, although the rain will have moved eastward, leaving large parts of the north of England dry, and the Midlands still in the firing line.
Weather maps suggest it will be a bitterly cold day, with the north of Scotland forecast temperatures between 0-2C at 9am. The majority of England will be in single digits during the morning, except for the south coast which could make it to 12C.
The rain will also move over Wales through the night, starting in the north and moving south, with temperatures averaging between 6-8C in the morning.
Northern Ireland will remain largely dry, with scattered rain over the coast, and it will feel a similar temperature to Wales at around 7-8C.
The Met Office predicted that Tuesday to Thursday will remain “changeable”, with rain or showers at times, especially in the northwest. It added: “Always driest and brightest towards the southeast. Temperatures recovering to near average for most.”
It follows a series of wind, rain and flood warnings, put in place this week as Storm Benjamin hits parts of the UK.
The Environment Agency has warned that local coastal flooding is “possible” in parts of east of England today, Sunday, November 26. Flooding is also possible but not expected more widely around English coasts, added the agency.
It warned that land, roads and some properties could flood, and there could be travel disruption.
