Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf look unrecognisable in photo before wedding | Tennis | Sport

Tennis legend Andre Agassi has marked a special milestone by celebrating his 24th wedding anniversary with fellow sporting icon Steffi Graf on social media. The 55-year-old shared a throwback photograph of the pair posing with their Wimbledon trophies from 1992, captured a full nine years before they exchanged vows.

Agassi appears remarkably different in the vintage snap, sporting his signature flowing blonde locks that dominated the image, a stark contrast to the bald look he embraces today. Dressed in an elegant dinner jacket with his characteristic dangling earring completing the ensemble, the American cuts a classic figure. Graf, now 56, is pictured wearing an elegant evening gown adorned with pearls.

Alongside the nostalgic photograph, Agassi posted a contemporary image of the beaming couple gazing into the camera, writing: “24 years with this wonderful woman, Happy Anniversary Steffi, you are my unicorn!”.

Though the duo shared their Wimbledon triumph in 1992, Agassi would subsequently wed actress Brooke Shields between 1997 and 1999, whilst Graf was romantically linked to racing driver Michael Bartels.

Following the American’s divorce from Shields, his relationship with Graf blossomed, with the couple embarking on their romance in 1999.

Agassi subsequently disclosed that he had harboured feelings for his future spouse for years.

In his 2009 autobiography, Open, he confessed: “I’ve had a crush on Steffi since I first saw her doing an interview on French TV. I was thunderstruck, dazzled by her understated grace, her effortless beauty.”

Agassi also revealed that he was “dying” to attend the prestigious Wimbledon Ball, knowing the two champions would get the opportunity to dance together.

Renowned for safeguarding their private affairs, Agassi and Graf exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony in October 2001 at their Las Vegas residence.

Staying true to their preference for discretion, just four individuals witnessed the occasion: Agassi, Graf and both their mothers.

Subsequently, they welcomed son Jaden Gil followed by daughter Jaz Elle in 2003. After retiring from competition, Agassi and Graf have opted for a tranquil family existence, protecting their offspring from the demands of professional tennis.
