Halo spin-off available now on Steam — and it’s free to play | Gaming | Entertainment
Gamers counting down the days to the hotly anticipated release of Halo: Campaign Evolved can make that wait much more bearable with this free-to-play spin-off. Last week, Halo Studios announced the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is coming to Xbox, PC and even PlayStation sometime next year — but now there’s a new release that can fill that Master Chief-sized void.
Spartan Survivors, a bullet-hell roguelite that challenges players to fight off hordes of enemies across hours of intense but fun gameplay, arrived on Steam on Wednesday (October 29). Better yet, the game is free to download for users. Take advantage of ten playable levels, on top of five different difficulty modes, a whopping 21 weapons available across 105 evolutions, as well as 14 perks and 56 upgrades, giving you plenty of freedom to customise your loadout to whatever you see fit.
Add eight playable characters to that list, each with their own unique abilities, weapons, perks and stats, and you get a truly immersive experience that has so much to offer.
Plus, if you want to give Spartan Survivors your own personalised spin, unlock a Custom Game which allows you to tailor the game to whichever way you want to play it.
“Fight hordes of Covenant & Flood in this new game mixing Roguelite & Bullet Heaven for hours of mindless fun,” reads the game’s official Steam description.
It has been immensely popular since launch, with over 10,000 downloads already and over 70 very positive Steam reviews.
In a post on X, the official twitter account said: “BREAKING: Spartan Survivors is officially available on Steam!
“The day has finally come and you can download it right now, for free obviously. Play it, share it, and most importantly: have fun with it!”
Anyone wondering whether Spartan Survivors has received the Halo stamp of approval, fear not because it certainly has.
Back in June, the Director of Communication at Halo Studios said: “Really love to see the passion you and your team have poured into this experience – it really is fun and we look forward to getting further in our play through and unlocking more stuff.”
