Little-known sequel to huge sci-fi movie you ‘should watch’ on Film 4 tonight | Films | Entertainment

Set 25 years after the original 1980s film, this sci-fi movie packs just as much action as its predecessor, and all two hours of it are set to air on TV tonight.

Terminator: Dark Fate provides the perfect film for your Saturday night in, as the 2019 sequel to the world-dominating franchise that kicked off in 1984. The film, directed by Tim Miller, sees Hollywood icons Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise their roles from the original hit films, as both Sarah Connor and, of course, the Terminator himself.

Many movie buffs will have soaked up both Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day but are less likely to have seen its latest addition to the franchise. This film follows on from the events of Terminator 2, when an AI known as Legion, who appears from an alternate future, sends an even more advanced version of Terminator, Rev-9, back in time.

That time was in 2020, and the task is to kill Dani Ramos, who is set to whose fate is to become the leader of the Human Resistance in the future. Although, she is protected by her own cyber soldier sent from the future, named Grace.

She is protected by Grace, a cybernetically enhanced soldier sent from the future. The T-800 Terminator and their newfound friends all team up to put an end to Rev-9 from killing its target.

A fan of the film took to Rotten Tomatoes to say: “Dark Fate still packs enough to make this enjoyable, especially for franchise fans. The characters are the biggest treat, the fresh faces and the series vets.”

Meanwhile, another pleased viewer shared: “Delivers on all levels. Mackenzie Davis and Linda Hamilton are outstanding, as is Natalia Reyes. A most worthy addition to the storied Terminator franchise.”

For many, seeing the film was their way of returning back to the franchise, and they were not disappointed. One person said: “I have not watched a Terminator movie in a while and watched this one, and it was very good. Worth the watch. Non-stop action that moved the plot along.”

Comparatively, some fans preferred for the franchise to be left alone back in the 80s, claiming it’s “burnt out”. They said: “The only impressive things to take away from this movie were the opening scene and the REV-9. Not even Linda Hamilton or Arnold could save this movie.

“This film is just the same old Terminator movie from start to finish: the target and the protector run away from the killer machine until they kill it at the very end. The franchise is just burnt out at this point.”

Unfortunately, despite fans’ love for the Terminator films, Dark Fate was described as a bit of a “box office bomb” and lost the studios significant amounts of money, causing them to leave the franchise where it is. There are currently no plans to pick up where they left off with the Terminator’s story from 2019, but you can catch it for free on TV tonight.

The 2019 movie, Terminator: Dark Fate, is set to air on Film4 tonight, Saturday 15, at 9pm. Alternatively, if you’re not at home in time for the live thing, you can stream the movie on Disney+.
