Paris power outage chaos as homes and train networks impacted | World | News

Parts of Paris have been hammered by a power blackout, with nearly 200,000 homes left without any electricity. French electricity operators reported that some metro and suburban train lines were suspended, while approximately 170,000 homes were initially without power.

Some areas of the French capital and the neighbouring Hauts-de-Seine region were struck by the power outage this morning, which also shut off traffic lights and streetlights. The blackout lasted around five minutes, according to French electricity grid operator Enedis. However, a couple thousand homes still remain impacted. By 6:50am around 2,600 households remained without electricity with full restoration at 8am (GMT), says Enedis.

French grid operator RTE, which manages France’s high-voltage electricity transmissions, linked the blackout to a technical incident at its Issy-Les-Moulineaux substation at 5.38a,, southwest of the capital.

In a post on X, RTE said 112,000 homes in the city and its surrounding areas had been reconnected within five minutes.

The operator added that RTE teams are continuing “their efforts to restore power to all affected households and offer their apologies for the inconvenience caused”.
