Man Utd can send three players to Wolves in Joao Gomes swap deal | Football | Sport

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up Wolves star Joao Gomes, who has impressed in the Premier League since moving to Molineux from Flamengo at the start of 2023. The midfielder could command a fee of £44million if Wolves agree to sell him.

Gomes has made 104 appearances for Wolves and has also been capped 10 times by Brazil since moving to England. He may been seen as the ideal replacement for compatriot Casemiro at Old Trafford next summer. And Express Sport has taken a look at three players United can offer Wolves in a swap deal to ensure they don’t have to break the bank to get their hands on the 24-year-old.

Tyrell Malacia

United had big plans for left-back Tyrell Malacia when they signed him from Feyenoord in 2022, just after Erik ten Hag had arrived as boss. Malacia initially held down a regular starting place at Old Trafford, but was soon forced to share game time with Luke Shaw.

The Netherlands international then missed the start of last season with a serious knee injury and was subsequently shipped off on loan to PSV for the second half of the campaign.

He was part of United’s ‘bomb squad’ in the summer but ultimately remained at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.

However, he has only been named in one matchday squad this term and appears to have no future at the club under Ruben Amorim. So United transfer chiefs would probably be more than happy to present him to Wolves to sweeten the Gomes deal.

Ayden Heaven

United could also offer Ayden Heaven to Wolves if the Red Devils don’t believe he will be a future star at the club.

The 19-year-old centre-back has featured from the bench in two Premier League matches this season and does appear to have a bright career ahead of him following his arrival from Arsenal in January.

But United have shown in the past that they are willing to move on some of their most exciting prospects if the right offer comes along, with talented trio Anthony Elanga, Dean Henderson and Scott McTominay all departing in recent years.

Chido Obi

Another young player United may be willing to sacrifice in their quest to sign Gomes is 17-year-old Chido Obi.

The striker has made eight first-team appearances for the Red Devils but hasn’t featured at all this season.

And if he isn’t ready for Premier League football by the time the season ends, United may view a swap deal as an option worth pursuing.
