Migrant caught running cannabis factory has to repay just £10 | UK | News

A migrant caught running a cannabis factory has been told to pay back just £10. Fatjon Hallaci, from Albania, was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison earlier this year after admitting producing class B cannabis in Norfolk.

He also pleaded guilty to other charges, including being concerned in the supply of class B drugs, in connection with offences in Kent in 2023, reports say. On Monday, a judge ordered Hallaci, of no fixed abode, to pay back £10 or spend a fortnight imprisonment in default. The 33-year-old was at Norwich Crown Court for a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) hearing.

POCA allows the Crown Prosecution Service to recover and confiscate proceeds, such as illegally-gained funds, property and assets, made from criminal activities.

The Eastern Daily Press reports the hearing heard the benefit figure from the cannabis factory, above a former bank in Hall Quay, Great Yarmouth, was around £152,000 — however, Hallaci was said to have assets of only £10.

Judge Anthony Bate ordered Hallaci to repay the money, or face the imprisonment in default.

Hallaci, alongside his co-defendant who has been deported, was found by police hiding in the roof of the former NatWest branch.

The Albanian was a gardener at the cannabis factory which police described as “large-scale”, according to the Eastern Daily Press.

A total of 888 cannabis plants were found across 10 rooms.
