‘Masterpiece’ horror comedy everyone must see now streaming | Films | Entertainment
The highly anticipated film of the year, featuring a star from Wednesday, is now available for streaming.
Death of A Unicorn, which was only released in cinemas earlier this year, can now be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home, thanks to its addition to Prime Video’s extensive catalogue.
The film’s plot revolves around a father and daughter who accidentally strike and kill a unicorn with their car while en route to a weekend retreat at a pharmaceutical CEO’s secluded estate.
Choosing to hide the creature’s body in the boot of their car, they are astounded to discover upon arrival that it possesses remarkable healing powers.
Upon discovering this, the estate owner and the father’s billionaire employer aim to capitalise on the creature’s miraculous healing abilities, hoping to exploit its medicinal properties for financial gain.
The star-studded cast includes Jenna Ortega, best known for her lead role in the Netflix series Wednesday, alongside Marvel star Paul Rudd, who portrays her on-screen father, Elliot Kintner , reports the Mirror.
They are joined by Oscar-nominated actor Richard E. Grant, who plays Elliot’s boss and wealthy healthcare CEO, Odell Leopold, and Guardians of The Galaxy’s Will Poulter, who stars as Leopold’s son, Shepard.
The ensemble cast also features Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Sunita Mani (Everything Everywhere All At Once), David Pasquesi (Veep) and Steve Park (Mickey 17).
Death of A Unicorn didn’t receive particularly warm reviews from critics following its debut.
The film managed to secure just 53% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
Nevertheless, audiences have taken a considerably more favourable stance towards the production, resulting in its impressive 76% viewer score.
One enthusiast expressing their opinion online wrote: “Fantastical. Ridiculous. Gory. And somehow… heartfelt? Not quite what I expected, but glad I went in blind. The comedy outweighs the horror, but the lore, performances, and chaos make it a ride worth taking. Will Poulter = MVP. My most anticipated movie of the year didn’t disappoint.”
A second viewer remarked: “A refreshingly bizarre horror comedy. In an era of predictable franchise films, Death of a Unicorn delivers a much-needed jolt to the system. Walking into the cinema with minimal expectations, I was thoroughly captivated by this genre-bending experience that defies simple categorisation.”
Meanwhile, another cinema-goer observed: “Wow! An absolutely outstanding movie which is genre-bending. From the tension built throughout the film, the comedic relief that didn’t feel corny and even a jump scare this was one of the most memorable pieces of horror cinema since Ethan Hawke in the Black Phone. Three words to describe this; Exhilarating, ingenious, heartfelt. I recommend anyone to go and see this masterpiece.”
Death of a Unicorn is streaming on Prime Video.
