Now You See Me fans ‘work out’ Thaddeus’ fate and notice key details | Films | Entertainment
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Now You See: Now You Don’t
The third chapter of the spellbinding Hollywood heist film series, Now You See Me, has recently hit the big screen, with fans flocking to cinemas and contributing to a staggering opening weekend box office haul of £15.9million ($21million), reports the Mirror.
After viewing the film, which includes a captivating post-credits scene, many are now dissecting the plot of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
The narrative follows the Horsemen as they welcome new members into their ranks, including Charlie Vanderberg (portrayed by Justice Smith), Bosco Leroy (Dominic Sessa) and June McClure (Ariana Greenblatt) after the trio dazzle with a deepfake show and topple a corrupt cryptocurrency exchange owner.
J. Daniel ‘Danny’ Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) assigns the three newcomers a mission from The Eye to pilfer the world’s largest diamond, known as the Heart Diamond, from Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike).
Vanderberg is the chief of a diamond company, implicated in money laundering and possessing a sinister connection to Nazis.
The team successfully accomplishes this mission and then sails to a mansion owned by Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman).
At the mansion, the now seven-strong Horseman uncover more about Vanderberg and her dark past, including her mother’s suicide and the tragic death of the housekeeper and her son in a car crash after their brakes were tampered with.
However, the police storm the grand property, filled with illusions, in an attempt to apprehend the Horsemen.
As the magicians make their escape, it’s revealed that Thaddeus has been shot by the police, but he implores his friends to continue without him so his death won’t be in vain.
Numerous fans have taken to Reddit to discuss Thaddeus’ alleged demise.
One user speculated on Reddit: “i’d bet he’ll show up as a surprise appearance in the sequel explaining how he managed to survive, like Colin Firth in Kingsman 2 [sic].”
Another chimed in: “I don’t buy for a second that Thaddeus is dead. We didn’t see a body.
“We saw him slide down the wall sure, but it’s not like they had a chance to check for a pulse. Faking a death would be child’s play at this point.”
A third concurred: “I agree. The bullet hole in the glass doesn’t match where he was pretending to be hit either.”
Others pointed out that Thaddeus’ death seemed to be a direct result of Charlie seeking vengeance on Vanderberg for murdering his mother.
One Redditor remarked: “I’m still a bit confused with all the trickery, but that was my first thought after the reveal. His plan for revenge led to Thaddeus’ death, and nearly led to the deaths of all the horsemen in the glass box.”
Another added: “Yeah, they were manipulated, and put in danger again for a personal vendetta lol [sic].”
One cinema-goer pointed out: “The story falls apart if you pick at it and Charlie is kinda responsible for Thaddeus’ death [sic].”
Another viewer questioned: “Not sure why Thaddeus had to die and that nobody of the OG Horsemen seemed to care that it was kinda Charlie’s fault?”
However, another fan speculated: “[A]lso Thaddeus getting shot behind the mirror trick and then seemingly “bleeding to death” and “dying” – definitely the Eye and NOT Charlie.”
A different user chimed in: “They should have at least acknowledged Thaddeus at the end given this was a character appearing in all 3 movies.”
