Man Utd ‘reach agreement’ on two AFCON stars hours before Bournemouth match | Football | Sport
Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo will reportedly be available for Manchester United’s match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday evening. Arrangements have been made with Ivory Coast and Cameroon, respectively, to permit the attacking players to depart following tonight’s fixture.
Nevertheless, uncertainty surrounds whether Noussair Mazraoui will be permitted to take part, according to The Athletic. The defender is scheduled to feature for Morocco in their tournament opener against Comoros on Sunday. FIFA confirmed last week that the release window for the competition “will be reduced by seven days and start on Monday, December 15, 2025”.
Yet Monday’s fixture coincides with the final day for players to join up with their international squads.
Speaking on Friday, United boss Ruben Amorim admitted that he remained uncertain about the availability of his three players bound for the tournament. He said: “We are still in conversations with the national teams.
“The game is just Monday. They are here, they are training and we are trying to prepare all the scenarios for the game.”
“It’s frustrating, but at the same time nobody knows who is going to play, so it’s a good thing, I think.
“We have players to cope with everything and that is something with a long week, you can see a lot of things and work on several stuff to prepare the game in any situation.”
However, it now seems that both Amad and Mbeumo will be fit for selection. Cameroon’s Mbeumo and Ivory Coast’s Diallo are set to play their first match of the tournament on December 24.
The Daily Mail claim that United struck an 11th-hour agreement with the federations in order to have both Mbeumo and Amad available for Bournemouth’s trip to Manchester.
AFCON is scheduled from December 21 to January 18. During this period, United have Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Wolves, Leeds United, Burnley and Manchester City.
United will also miss Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt for Monday’s match; however, Benjamin Sesko might make an appearance for the first time since suffering a knee injury at Tottenham five weeks ago.
