‘Absolute masterpiece’ that’s ‘most perfect war movie’ is on Amazon Prime | Films | Entertainment

War films are packed with action, and the popular genre is home to a huge range of blockbuster hits. Over Christmas, you’ll no doubt have some spare time on your hands and what better way to fill it than watching a good film?

One film has been featured in a list by Collider of the 10 most perfect war films. Paths of Glory (1957) tells the story of a colonel who defends three of his soldiers in a court-martial after they abandon a suicidal attack. One person on Rotten Tomatoes said: “I can’t even begin to imagine how Kubrick made this movie. I was perplexed the entire time. An absolute masterpiece.”

Starring Kirk Douglas, Ralph Meeker and Adolphe Menjou, the film has gained a huge reputation over the years.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has earned a rating of 96% with fans sharing their praise for the movie.

One penned: “Definitely Kubrick’s most emotionally driven film. It’s probably my favorite war film.

“Paths of Glory doesn’t glorify the war and fighting itself, it shows how horrifying war is behind all of the battles. And its one actual war scene is amazingly done.

“Memorable for the beautiful cinematography and one of the greatest endings of all time, Paths of Glory is a must see.”

Another called it an “absolute masterpiece”.

Paths of Glory received critical acclaim and several prestigious awards, including a BAFTA nomination for Best Film from any Source.

Kubrick‘s film was inspired by Humphrey Cobb’s Paths of Glory, which was published in 1935.

The author enlisted in the Canadian Army when he was 17-years-old and fought for three years during the First World War. He was stationed on the frontlines and fought in the Battle of Amiens in 1918.

If you’re wondering where you can watch the film, it’s available to stream on Amazon Prime.
