‘Truly one of the best superhero movies’ airing on BBC today | Films | Entertainment
Marvel enthusiasts are in for a treat as one of the ‘brilliant’ sequels from the franchise airs on BBC1 today.
The 2019 film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, cleverly intertwines the worlds of Spider-Man and Avengers.
It follows Peter Parker on a school trip across Europe, where he hopes to take a break from his superhero duties after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
However, his plans are disrupted when Nick Fury appears in his hotel room with a mission.
The world is under threat from four colossal elemental creatures, each embodying earth, air, water and fire, which have emerged from a tear in the universe.
Parker finds himself once again donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury and fellow superhero Mysterio in preventing these malevolent entities from causing chaos across Europe.
The film features a star-studded cast with Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zendaya as MJ, and introduces Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, reports the Mirror.
The narrative picks up after the heart-wrenching conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, including Iron Man’s sacrifice, and portrays Peter grappling with grief and responsibility.
As Peter contemplates relinquishing his superhero status, the film sees Tom Holland stepping into his Spider-Man suit for the fifth time to save the day.
Among the plethora of superhero films, this one has received high praise from fans, with some even declaring it their favourite among the Tom Holland-led movies.
On Rotten Tomatoes, one viewer awarded it 4.5 stars, saying: “Even better than homecoming! Probably my fav Spiderman movie I loved all of it. Definitely recommend.”
Another added: “This is the underrated holland film. It has laughs, action and great acting!”.
“Spider-Man in Europe. Fun watch. Mysterio is a really great villain and carried this movie,” remarked a third.
A further fan said: “Truly one of the best Spider-man movies. Bringing him into the MCU in civil war looked like fatal mistake when it was a blessing in disguise. Great story, villan and plot. Truly a Spidey sandwich.”
One five-star review added: “Personally, this is one of the best Spider-Man movies so far! The plot was full of interesting twists and casting was amazing! The action and acting were also notable! All around fun for the family!”.
“”Spider-Man: Far From Home” is a fun and exciting movie that’s well-written and acted, offering a unique perspective on Peter Parker’s life and the world after “Endgame”,” noted another reviewer.
“While the plot may feel a bit convoluted, it generally holds up internally. The movie is considered a solid sequel, especially for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).”
Spider-Man: Far From Home airs on Monday 22 December on BBC1 at 4pm.
