‘Wholesome’ and ‘underrated’ comedy with ‘perfect ending’ on ITV tonight | Films | Entertainment

A beloved family film is set to grace ITV screens tonight, earning praise as ‘perfect’ and hailed as one actor’s ‘finest performance’.

The 1993 classic Mrs. Doubtfire features the late comedic genius Robin Williams alongside Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein, and Mara Wilson. The plot revolves around Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams), a fun-loving but reckless father who adores his three children.

His wife, Miranda (Sally Field), grows weary of his irresponsible behaviour, leading her to file for divorce and secure full custody of their children. Heartbroken by his limited access to his kids, Daniel becomes desperate to remain a part of their everyday lives.

Upon discovering that Miranda is in need of a housekeeper, Daniel hatches an ingenious plan. With the assistance of his makeup artist brother (Harvey Fierstein), he transforms into Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, a delightful, stern-yet-kind elderly Scottish nanny whom Miranda employs.

Mrs. Doubtfire quickly charms the children and gains Miranda’s confidence. However, as Daniel struggles to maintain his double life, it results in a series of hilarious scenarios, all while learning to be a more responsible parent, reports the Mirror.
