A film described as an ‘absolute delight’ that left audiences ‘in hysterics’ is screening on ITV this evening, with fans hailing it as ‘a great watch. ‘.
Hot Fuzz centres on by-the-book London policeman Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg), who is reassigned to the apparently peaceful and law-abiding village of Sandford.
There, he’s teamed up with the eager yet incompetent Danny Butterman (Nick Frost).
Angel finds the leisurely pace challenging until a string of grisly “accidents” unfold, exposing a dark plot masterminded by Sandford’s “Neighbourhood Watch” to preserve the village’s flawless reputation.
This forces the mismatched pair into a riotous, explosive confrontation as they seek to reveal the truth.
Featuring a strong ensemble cast, including real-life best friends Simon Pegg and Nick Frost following their success in Shaun of the Dead, this British comedy whodunit has proven immensely popular with audiences.
Rotten Tomatoes reviews lavish praise upon the 2007 British comedy, with one viewer saying: “An absolute delight of a movie. The writing is so quick witted and the pacing is perfect for me. the directing style was so unique and would make this a fun rewatch.
“The story was well put together and at the same time very unique and fun. The acting was great and Simon Pegg was the perfect straight man for this type of film. I was lucky enough to watch this with someone who is a huge fan which goes to show how rewatchable it is. Even knowing the twist at the end doesn’t deter you from throwing it on. Another viewer praised: “My favourite type of British comedy with a lot of dry humour. I liked the length of the film even though I started/stopped it several times due to my ADHD. I thought the who dun it plot was done well especially because it’s so common and often poorly done in comedies.”
They added: “I found the representation of the police to be hilarious and they really did nail the presentation of the police force in the UK in terms of their differing personalities and approach which is a balance between serious/comical.”
