‘One of the greatest holiday movies of all time’ with Mel Gibson | Films | Entertainment

An audacious Christmas action comedy film, featuring a star from Fallout, is now available for free streaming.

Fatman offers an unconventional choice for those seeking something different from their usual festive film fare. However, it’s best saved for after the little ones have been tucked in for the night.

The film made its cinema debut in 2020 and quickly gained traction on digital platforms. Now, several years on, it has found new homes on various streaming services.

The best part? One of these platforms allows viewers to enjoy the film at no extra charge. While Prime Video currently hosts the film, those without a subscription can also find it on Plex, reports the Mirror.

Plex is an ad-supported streaming service accessible on most devices or through web streaming. It doesn’t require users to log in to stream many of its titles.

According to the film’s synopsis, Fatman tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Chris Cringle, better known as Santa Claus. In a bid to save his failing business, he reluctantly partners with the U.S. military.

To complicate matters further, Chris finds himself in a lethal battle of wits with a highly skilled assassin, hired by a disgruntled 12 year old who received a lump of coal in his stocking.

The cast boasts none other than Mel Gibson stepping into Santa’s boots.

Meanwhile, Fallout star Walton Goggins portrays the hitman and toy shop employee Jonathan Miller, who harbours a personal vendetta against Chris Cringle.

Whilst the film didn’t achieve critical acclaim, it has certainly cultivated a devoted following.

The movie enjoys an impressive 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, one critic observed: “Fatman is outrageous on paper but surprisingly level-headed in execution. It needs to be a little looser and crazier to attain cult status, but as it stands, it works more often than it doesn’t, and boasts enough ho-ho-hos to warrant a watch.”

Numerous enthusiasts have voiced their endorsements, with one simply declaring: “Ridiculous in the best way.”

Another went as far as proclaiming: “This is probably one of the greatest holiday movies of all time, however, it won’t receive the appreciation it deserves because of poor critic reviews.

“Great acting by a great cast, especially Mrs. Claus… all boxes are checked here: funny, dramatic, suspenseful, realistic action, emotional moments… “.

Others recommended it for viewers seeking something unconventional.

One individual commented: “Fatman is a surprisingly fun and different take on a Christmas movie. Mel Gibson plays a tough, worn-down Santa, and it actually works.

“The film blends dark comedy, action and sentiment without veering into the realm of cliché. It’s not your standard festive fare, but that’s what makes it a delight. If you’re after something a bit edgier and entertaining instead of the usual heart-warming narratives, this one’s worth a watch.”

Many concurred that the standout performances from Mel Gibson and Walton Goggins truly enhanced the viewing experience. One viewer opined: “The role Mel Gibson was born to play! This film isn’t slapstick or excessively violent. However, it is thoroughly entertaining in its self-aware, melodramatic approach to such an absurd premise. I’m not joking, the acting by all, particularly Mel and Walton, is superb.”

Another echoed these sentiments: “This film is utterly ludicrous and I adore it for that. It’s quirky, bizarre, and fully aware of it. The serious tone of the film brilliantly underscores the humour of the situation. Mel Gibson is outstanding and Walton Goggins is the absolute highlight of the film. All things considered, I love this film far more than I should and it’s unquestionably the perfect Christmas film.”
