9 beautiful countries that will be hotter than 25C in January | World | News

Brits looking to escape the bleakness of post-Christmas winter can choose from a raft of options for a dose of tropical sun, with a number of beautiful hotspots around the world basking in temperatures of 25C or above. Whether looking for a city break, such as Sydney in Australia, where the mercury hovers above 27C, or a beach holiday in Mexico, the Caribbean or Brazil, sun-drenched getaways are in abundance next month.

While some of the southern hemisphere destinations are a lengthy plane ride away, January trips are generally cheaper than other times of the year because it’s an off-peak travel season for many holiday spots. Those hoping to dodge the winter blues after the tree comes down and the festive merriment becomes a distant memory can also keep an eye on travel companies launching deals on flights and hotels in the new year.

We’ve rounded up some of the warmest destinations for a January escape, all with average temperatures of above 25C – a far cry from the UK’s typical 5-6C range.

For those looking to escape the UK January blues on a city break, Singapore is a great – if long-haul – option, with temperatures also averaging 30.5C. It also has around 5 to 6 hours of sunshine daily but Brits may struggle with its humidity levels of 85%.

The high-rise city-state sits between Malaysia and Indonesia in southeast Asia and has a tropical/equatorial climate, ensuring consistent temperatures year-round.

Singapore also has UNESCO-protected status and is renowned for its food scene, cleanliness and efficient public transport.

Another long-haul option that’s guaranteed to combat winter blues, the port city of Manaus in northern Brazil is the capital of the state of Amazonas and reaches a peak of 30C in January.

Despite being in the middle of a rainforest surrounded by trees and greenery, Manaus is a developed city with buildings, businesses, an airport and an opera house.

While January is one of its mildest months, visitors can also expect significant rainfall, thanks to its tropical monsoon climate, humidity of 86% and just four hours of daily sunshine.

If your idea of a January getaway is a beach holiday, you can’t go far wrong with Barbados, which averages 29.1C in January.

Visitors will also get more bang for their buck, with nine hours of daylight in which to enjoy the island’s white sand beaches and luxury resorts, with winds blowing at an average speed of 11.8mph to ensure temperatures remain bearable.

Sea temperatures are also very warm early in the year, making it the perfect opportunity to try your hand at activities including snorkelling and scuba.
