England star calls fan a ‘p****’ as footage emerges from Ashes drinking session | Cricket | Sport

England’s embarrassing Ashes tour has hit a new low with footage emerging of an apparently intoxicated Ben Duckett branding a supporter a “p***k”. England chiefs are already investigating allegations that several of their players drank alcohol excessively during a break in the Australian coastal resort of Noosa on Queensland’s shoreline. The team subsequently suffered defeat in the third Test, ensuring they cannot reclaim the Ashes from their historic adversaries.

Now, in footage circulated on social media, Duckett, who appears intoxicated, can be observed conversing with a supporter who makes a light-hearted remark about England’s dismal cricket performances. The supporter enquires whether Duckett knows his accommodation whereabouts, to which the England cricketer replies “no”, before requesting assistance in booking an Uber.

The supporter then quips that the taxi could transport him “to the nets” as he requires practice with England “2-0 down”. The Nottinghamshire batsman retorts by branding him a “p***k”, prompting laughter from the supporter.

Duckett subsequently asks “who are you”, and upon learning his identity, responds “no one knows”.

When the supporter enquires about Duckett’s identity, he answers “f*** knows”. After the supporter indicates that he recognises the cricket star, Duckett – audibly slurring his speech – replies “no one knows who you are”.

He is then offered another opportunity to secure transport, before the supporter concedes defeat and informs his friends they’ll have to abandon him.

A spokesperson for the ECB told the Daily Star: “We are aware of content circulating on social media.

“We have high expectations for behaviour, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance.

“We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts.”

England director of cricket Rob Key recently said that reports of players drinking for a significant portion of their four nights in Noosa, and two previous days in Brisbane, were being investigated.

He stated: “Headlines can be misleading at times, saying it’s a stag do and stuff like that. Stories of players drinking six days solid – that’s unacceptable.

“We’ll be looking into seeing what the facts are as opposed to the things that have been embellished or elaborated on.

“When you see a picture of five or six guys sitting down for lunch, a couple of them having drinks, you need to see what’s going on with that,” said Key.

“If it’s true that it became a stag do and people are out drinking all the time excessively, that’s not acceptable. I don’t agree with a drinking culture. I don’t like a drinking culture.”

Key confessed to investigating rumours that white-ball captain Harry Brook and batsman Jacob Bethell were indulging in alcohol during the limited-overs tour of New Zealand, just before the Ashes.

“I didn’t feel like that was worthy of formal warnings, but it was probably worthy of informal ones,” Key admitted.

“There wasn’t any formal action. We’ve had four years where we’ve had none of these issues really, with any of the players, and there’s a whole process that we put in place for stuff like that, for what you do if they’re out of line.”

Reflecting on the incident, he said: “That was a bit of a wake-up call for what they’re going into. I don’t mind players having a glass of wine over dinner. Anything more than that, I think is ridiculous.”
