Andy and Kim Murray’s business to shut doors after major announcement | Tennis | Sport
Andy and Kim Murray are set to temporarily close their Cromlix Hotel in the New Year. The married couple have owned the five-star hotel in Kinbuck and its 34-acre estate since 2013. Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray now has more time to focus on his business ventures, including his hotel in Perthshire, after his retirement from tennis last year. Cromlix announced plans to build two new restaurants earlier this year.
Construction work began in October and the major redevelopment will also feature the addition of a wellness facility and three new suites. However, the Murray-owned hotel will shut its doors from January 4 as the work continues, with the Cromlix expected to reopen in spring 2026. The Courier reports that the new restaurant will seat up to 80 guests, overlooking the estate, and the kitchen will also be relocated and upgraded to accommodate more diners. Meanwhile, the existing Glasshouse restaurant will host afternoon teas and other events.
The redevelopment project is scheduled to last several months, with the revamped hotel set to open its doors in May 2026. Cromlix’s booking team and online shop will remain operational during the closure.
The construction work is being led by the Doune-based Kings Group. Perthshire architect Fergus Purdie and interior designer Suzanne Garuda are also involved in the project.
When the restaurant plans were announced, Kim said: “I’m really excited about this next phase for Cromlix. The Glasshouse, our current restaurant, has been doing really well and is fully booked most of the time, but the space lacks a bit of personality and doesn’t deliver aesthetically in the same way that the rest of the hotel does.
“We appointed a new executive head chef (James Mearing) earlier this year and he’s doing a great job, and it will be fantastic for him to put his stamp on this new food experience at Cromlix.”
The hotel has won several awards in recent years. In 2024, Cromlix was named Scottish hotel of the year at the AA Hospitality Awards and was included in The Times’ top 100 places to stay in the UK.
The Murrays bought the hotel for £1.8million in February 2013. It had been closed since 2012, but reopened under the new ownership in April 2014.
