Budget airline launches 6 new routes to holiday hotspots in 2026 – full list | Travel News | Travel

One of Europe’s most popular budget airlines has revealed it will launch six brand new routes from one of the UK’s busiest airports next year, after one of its main competitors shifted all its operations to another major hub. From June 12, holidaymakers will be able to fly with Wizz Air to popular destinations in Spain, Portugal and others across Europe from London Luton Airport, where it already stands as its busiest operator.

The announcement comes after TUI relocated all its operations to Gatwick Airport “to strengthen core operations”. New routes include Yerevan in Armenia, as well as Alicante in Spain, Lyon in France, Corfu in Greece, Faro in Portugal and Turin in Italy. Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia, is known as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, blended with welcoming cafes, wine bars, restaurants, churches, galleries and museums. Meanwhile, Turin in northwest Italy, is famous for its Baroque architecture and incredible food scene, including chocolate and wine.

Luton Airport is one of the UK’s busiest airports, consistently ranking as the fifth busiest overall and a major hub for low-cost carriers like easyJet, Ryanair, and Wizz Air, serving as a vital gateway to London and Europe. The airport handles an average of 46,000 passengers daily and approximately 17 million each year.

Wizz Air is also basing an additional aircraft at the airport, bringing its fleet there to a total of 15 planes, in a decision which it said would bolster the town’s “economic growth strategy, helping to deliver long-term, sustainable growth for the airport and region”.

Yvonne Moynihan, managing director at Wizz Air UK, said: “With Brits already thinking about how to escape the cold British winter, we’re offering yet another destination that offers sunshine and mild temperatures throughout the year.

“This new route is another exciting addition to our growing connections between the UK and Spain.”

Wizz Air is also expanding its presence at London Gatwick with a new daily service to Valencia, southeastern Spain, commencing on March 29, 2026.

The budget airline’s new routes come as easyJet also announced its own new services from Manchester to two new destinations to the Scandinavian Mountains and Verona in Italy. The maiden voyage left on December 20 and will run on a weekly basis throughout the winter period.

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, commented to say: “We are really pleased to be celebrating our inaugural flights to the Scandinavian Mountains and Verona.

“By introducing connections from Manchester to two more new destinations on our unrivalled leisure network, customers from across the northwest can now enjoy even more choice this winter.”
