Migrant crisis: Boat sinks ‘leaving 116 dead and 1 survivor’ | World | News
More than 100 migrants lost their lives in the Mediterranean while attempting to reach European shores from Lybia, the humanitarian organisation Sea Watch said. Just one person, who was on board a vessel thought to be carrying 117 people, is believed to have survived the shipwreck.
The survivor was rescued by a Tunisian fishing boat, and was taken to hospital. The horror incident happened on December 18, when a vessel carrying migrants sent out an SOS message shortly after leaving the African country.
Seabird, an aircraft monitoring the area normally crossed by migrant vessels, failed to locate the boat, immediately prompting fears of a shipwreck.
