Chelsea transfer decision confirmed as clause activated | Football | Sport

Chelsea have opted to bring Aaron Anselmino back from his loan stint at Borussia Dortmund. The Blues had sent the young centre-back to the Bundesliga side on a season-long loan last August to acquire valuable first-team experience.

Anselmino has featured on just 10 occasions for Dortmund this term, with merely six outings in the German top flight, and will now head back to Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window shuts. It’s been stated that Chelsea inserted a recall option into the deal that took Anselmino to Dortmund on loan last summer, which the Blues are now exercising to return the 20-year-old to west London.

Chelsea have until February 2 to finalise their transfer dealings for the window, with Anselmino’s situation to be evaluated following his arrival back at the club, and it’s unclear whether a loan move to another side will be agreed.

New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior started Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah as his centre-back pairing in Sunday afternoon’s 3-1 Premier League triumph over Crystal Palace. Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana both featured as substitutes for the Blues, whilst Josh Acheampong remained on the bench throughout at Selhurst Park.

Levi Colwill remains sidelined with a knee problem sustained last summer, prompting Chelsea to consider bringing in fresh defensive reinforcements before the transfer deadline. It has previously been reported by that Jacquet features on Chelsea’s radar, with the 20-year-old defender contracted at Rennes until the summer of 2029.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Jacquet during this month’s transfer window. Chelsea are fifth in the Premier League table after beating Palace.

Rosenior said: “I think today was a huge test. I changed the shape I played (and) the performance they did today makes me very pleased, because 95 per cent of the press and 95 per cent of the positioning was absolutely perfect.

“So they’re engaged, I think they’re believing in what they’re doing. It’s one game. We have to make sure that we’re consistent in every game we play.”
