Boy fighting for his life after being hit by car as ‘drug driver’ arrested | UK | News
A young boy is fighting for life at a hospital after being hit by a car while crossing the road on his scooter in London. A 28-year-old driver stopped at the scene and has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, the Metropolitan Police have said.
The 10-year-old boy was treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The incident happened at around 8.30am on Sunday, January 25, in Honeypot Lane, Stanmore. The driver has since been interviewed under caution and bailed. Officers are now urging members of the public to come forward with any details that might help their investigation, stressing that even small pieces of information could prove valuable.
They are especially keen to obtain any video footage of a black Volkswagen Golf GTI that was involved in the collision, specifically from the time window between 8.15 and 8.35 on Sunday morning.
Investigators believe that recordings from this period could shed light on how the incident unfolded and help identify those responsible.
Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Unit, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with this young boy and his loved ones at this very difficult time.
“A family had their lives turned upside down during a Sunday morning walk, and our team is now working around the clock to piece together what happened.
“It’s imperative we gather as much evidence as we can to ensure we can build the full picture of the incident, and are encouraging anyone who can help to come forward and talk to us.”
