Most romantic place in the world has £14 flights for Valentine’s Day | Travel News | Travel

As we near the end of January, our attention might turn to the next occasion – Valentine’s Day. If you’re hoping to do something special this year, or just want to spend time away with a loved one to beat the winter blues, the most romantic place has been revealed, and it’ll cost you just £14 to get there!

In the days leading up to 14 February, searches online for ‘romantic holidays for couples’ have increased significantly, according to Google Trends. As a result of this, travel experts at Solmar Villas analysed extensive data to reveal the most romantic destination in the world, and it’s far from Paris or the Maldives.

The experts analysed February weather conditions, along with other factors that contribute to a romantic getaway, such as sunset quality, restaurant ratings, crowd levels, and scenic walks. In their study, they ranked Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, as the world’s most romantic spot to escape to next month.

Fuerteventura is the second-largest of the Canary Islands, offering blistering rays of up to 22C in February and one-way direct flights departing from London starting from just £14. Fuerteventura offers stretches of golden sand beaches, measuring a whopping 150km in length, and turquoise waters that are a haven for watersports, tropical sea life, and swimming.

One of its most striking beaches is Playa del Bajo de la Burra, otherwise known as Popcorn Beach. Remarkably, the beach is covered in white, fossilised coral or calcareous algae deposited by the tide, bearing an uncanny resemblance to puffed-up popcorn.

The likeness to actual popcorn scattered across the sand is so convincing that photographs could easily fool viewers into thinking it’s the beloved cinema treat. Tourists have descended upon the beach to witness this natural spectacle, dubbing it the “most bizarre in the world” and drawing parallels with Caribbean destinations.

One traveller shared on TripAdvisor: “Great place to visit and just sit and relax. Nice wind and when the tide is out, plenty of rock pools to explore. Beware of the slippery lava rocks, very dangerous. When the tide is in, the white popcorn algae makes it look like the Caribbean!”

Aside from the sun-soaked rays, Fuerteventura’s allure lies within its laid-back atmosphere and a sea of luxury resorts dotted along the coast, offering an idyllic stay. Not to mention its unique scenic volcanic backdrop and desert-like landscapes.

There are vibrant cocktail bars and thriving restaurants across Fuerteventura for a holiday date night, along with beach bars to enjoy the winter sun. Visitors can also explore the natural parks or take a gentle stroll along the coast to admire the landscapes in this picturesque destination.

One-way direct flights to the Canary Islands start from £14 departing from London Stansted in February, with return flights also starting from £14. The direct flight is just over four hours, making it an easy and sun-soaked escape to celebrate that special occasion, or if you just want a break from the gloomy British weather!

Offering a glimpse into the scenic escape, one holidaymaker shared: “I had a holiday in Fuerteventura at the end of February, and the weather was very changeable. When the sun shines, it is pleasant, but if there is a wind and it is cloudy, it can be cool but still good for walking. I would guess the daytime temperature to be between 17C and 25C ( in the shade). The island is an all-year-round resort, so everywhere will be open.”
