Amazon’s ultimate colour screen Kindle is suddenly cheaper and selling fast
Amazon is still the go-to company when it comes to shopping for an e-reader for many bookworms, which means millions of people already own a Kindle. But if you have been thinking about upgrading your device, now seems like a better time than ever given that the Kindle Colorsoft is currently on sale.
Right now, you can pick up the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft for £174, a solid 27 percent discount on the device’s usual £239.99 RRP. This is the latest version of the Colorsoft that launched just last year.
Amazon’s first ever colour display Kindle was released in 2024, finally offering more realistic hues for book covers and illustrations, not to mention automatically becoming the best Kindle for comic books and graphic novels.
But, to my mind, the device was a little too pricey at a lofty £269.99. In perhaps a slight admission of this, Amazon released a cheaper model in 2025, with half the storage and no automatic backlight sensor, which is the version currently on sale. In my opinion, you don’t lose out by getting the cheaper model, especially when it is £174 like it is now.
The Kindle Colorsoft has a 7-inch screen that is an ideal size to hold in one hand for extended reading sessions, and a tap on the screen with a free thumb is all that’s needed to turn the page. Amazon says a single charge can last up to eight weeks, a truly amazing battery life that wipes the floor with any smartphone, ensuring you always have something to read even if you have left your charger at home.
Thanks to the colour-enabled display you can highlight text in different shades, or you can invert the entire system to read white text on a black background if you prefer this in low light. Add to that full waterproofing and you have a very customisable Kindle that won’t break even if you accidentally drop it in the pool or bath.

According to Amazon price comparison site Camelcamelcamel, this particular Colorsoft has only been cheaper than the current £174 price once – predictably, on Black Friday back in November 2025, when it was £164.
Amazon is known for its fluctuating prices on scores of products, but this current sale price on the Colorsoft is only £10 more than the cheapest ever price, so it’s a solid deal if you are looking to upgrade your e-reader to something more advanced.
At the time of writing, the listing page for this £174 Amazon Kindle Colosoft says the deal is “selling fast”, which goes to show canny readers know a great deal when they see one.
Amazon doesn’t say how long this offer will last, but if you are in the market for an all-round excellent new e-reader that you want to last you a good few years, this is certainly a good one to go for at a price that’s almost as cheap as it has ever been.
