McDonald’s infuriates customers by scrapping 80% of some menus | UK | News
McDonald’s vegetarian customers feel “targeted” after the fast-food chain announced it will scrap most of its meat-free meals. From next week, McDonald’s will no longer sell Veggie Dippers, Veggie Dipper Happy Meals, Spicy Veggie Wraps, or Vegetable Deluxe sandwiches.
The vegan McPlant burger will be the only remaining veggie meal after the controversial decision, which McDonald’s said was down to sales and feedback. One furious customer, Jennifer Powell, 32, raged: “As a non-meat eater, I’m genuinely shocked. We are being targeted — McDonald’s obviously no longer wants us as customers.”
She continued: “Quite why a considerate, modern firm based on every high street is now treating vegetarians like an afterthought and a nuisance is a mystery. They clearly view us as second class citizens, and I will be rethinking my fast food choices.”
Despite the menu cull, the chain will be launching Pizza Mozzerella Dippers and bringing back the Chicken Big Mac for meat eaters.
It comes just a few years after the fast-food chain introduced popular vegetarian items to cater to a wider audience. McDonald’s launched its first-ever vegetarian Happy Meal and the Spicy Veggie Wrap in 2019, and its first vegan meal from January 2020, with the introduction of Veggie Dippers.
A spokesperson said yesterday: “We’re always listening to our customers to help inform and evolve our menu.
“While McPlant remains a firm fan favourite and will continue to be the go-to choice for our vegetarian and vegan customers, we recognise these changes may be disappointing for some.
“We are actively learning from other markets to understand which vegetarian and vegan options are proving most popular and exploring exciting new offerings.”
