Man Utd transfer news: Dorgu replacement as INEOS return for £40m star | Football | Sport
Despite lacking European competition to entice prospects, the club invested upwards of £200million last summer, bringing in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens. Currently, reinforcing the midfield ranks is top of the agenda, with Elliot Anderson understood to be the primary target. However, with Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation now abandoned, opportunities to recruit a new left winger have expanded considerably. With this in mind, Express Sport look at the latest United transfer developments….
The 19-year-old has featured sporadically in the first team at Stamford Bridge over the past two seasons. Last term, he made 39 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s squad, netting eight goals and providing 11 assists, though his playing time has diminished this season following the arrivals of Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho.
Carrick has successfully deployed Patrick Dorgu on the left wing in his first two matches, but the former Lecce star is set for a spell on the sidelines. George is reportedly available for transfer from Chelsea and could command a fee of around £22m, similar to the sum Fulham agreed last summer.
Interest in Martinez rekindled
Prior to signing Lammens, United spent the entire summer courting Emiliano Martinez. Amorim was believed to be eager to bring the Aston Villa goalkeeper to the club, before the decision was made to sign Lammens.
Now, CaughtOffside claim that United are reassessing their goalkeeping options, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir expected to depart permanently. Martinez’s name has resurfaced, and Villa would be open to selling him for around £40m.
The Argentina international’s contract at Villa runs until 2029, putting Unai Emery’s side in a strong position to negotiate.
