Man Utd player ratings vs West Ham: Sesko rescues two 4/10s as Cunha nowhere to be seen | Football | Sport
Manchester United left it until the dying minutes to snatch a dramatic draw against West Ham at the London Stadium. Tomas Soucek’s second-half strike nearly earned all three points for the Hammers, but Benjamin Sesko’s flicked finish in stoppage time rescued a point for the in-form Red Devils. It was a very tepid first half as United struggled to make inroads, with West Ham putting everybody behind the ball. Luke Shaw had the best chance of the opening 45 minutes but saw his first-time effort cleared off the line by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Things opened up in the second half and the deadlock was broken just four minutes after the restart, with Soucek bundling the ball home from close range. Casemiro thought he had equalised after the hour mark but saw his header ruled out by VAR for offside. Both teams had chances to score as the clock ticked down, with Sesko eventually finding the net in the sixth of seven added minutes to salvage a draw for the visitors.
Express Sport rates and slates the United players following today’s game…
Made a big early stop to deny Crysencio Summerville from long range. Couldn’t have done much to stop Soucek from scoring.
Struggled to cope with Summerville’s pace on the right flank and wasn’t accurate enough with his passing. Booked for a silly foul.
Was guilty of some sloppy passing in the early exchanges but recovered well and chipped in with some important defensive blocks.
The best passer in United’s back four, breaking through the lines on several occasions, and did his defensive duties reasonably well.
Nearly scored in the first half but saw his effort cleared off the line. Crucially stepped out of position in the build-up to Soucek’s goal.
Had a solid game, making a couple of important tackles to break up play in the middle of the pitch. Headed in well but was offside.
Controlled the tempo in the middle of the park but wasn’t able to make any inroads. Failed to track the run of Soucek for the goal.
Played some incisive passes into dangerous areas when chances were at a premium, but was relatively quiet overall.
Had a half-chance just before the break but found the side-netting. Wasn’t as threatening as usual and needed to deliver more.
Struggled to make any sort of impact. Kept dropping deep to pick up the ball but to no effect. Nowhere to be seen.
Worked hard up front and regularly tracked back to lend a hand in defence. Didn’t offer a great deal of attacking threat, though.
Played the final 20 minutes, coming on for Maguire. Made two solid late blocks as West Ham chased an insurance goal.
Got a run-out in the second half, replacing Cunha. Poked home in the dying minutes to rescue a valuable point for United.
A late addition, coming on for Dalot with just under 10 minutes remaining. Came very close to heading home in stoppage time.
