The authorities are now probing the ‘mistaken kidnapping’ and are pleading for the safe return of the elderly man following the incident, which occurred just after 5am on Friday, February 13, The Mirror reports.
The man was seized from North Ryde in Sydney’s northwest. The police have disseminated a photograph of the man but have yet to disclose his name – they confirm his family has been informed and is receiving support.
Significantly, the force believes he was ‘not the intended target’, suggesting the kidnappers have blundered. They are now appealing for his safe return.
In an official statement, a representative for New South Wales Police declared: “Police attended the location, and shortly after detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad commenced an investigation.”
“Police consider that the man who was reportedly kidnapped may not have been the intended target and are appealing for his safe return.
“Detectives confirm they remain in ongoing communication with the man’s family as inquiries continue.
“As part of the investigation, police have released an image of the man and are seeking information from the public regarding his whereabouts.
