Two British tourists who assaulted three individuals using a broken glass in Majorca last June could both face lengthy prison sentences as well as hefty compensation to their victims. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is requesting 10 years of imprisonment each for the accused, on top of a joint compensation of €15,450 (£13,480) to the three victims, who sustained various injuries with lasting effects as a result of the incident.

The event was captured on the Palmanova restaurant’s security cameras, with the trial scheduled to be held at a Criminal Court on Vía Alemania, Palma. The incident occurred at around 2am local time on June 22, 2025, when a staff member refused to serve additional drinks to the suspects, aged 24 and 34, after they had been verbally harassing other customers and staff with derogatory remarks and disruptive behaviour. Following this refusal, an argument escalated, during which both defendants pushed the employee to the floor, causing her to hit her head.

She also sustained cuts to her legs from broken glass on the floor. A colleague then intervened to calm the situation, but was struck from behind with a glass, rendering him disoriented, according to Ultima Hora. A bystander also attempted to de-escalate the altercation, but was hit in the neck by shards of broken glass. A physical struggle ensued, leading to a glass shattering in one attacker’s hand.

The three victims received significant injuries, some classified as serious, from the lacerations caused by the broken glass being wielded as a weapon. The Civil Guard in Calvia arrested the pair shortly after the incident, and they were subsequently remanded in custody, charged with attempted homicide.

As a result of the harm and lasting consequences of the incident, the prosecution seeks over €15,450 in damages payable jointly by the caused.

This comes just days after a British man smashed up 10 check-in kiosks and nearby counters during an early morning airport rage in Hong Kong before being arrested. The man, aged 35, used a metal post to smash up check-in kiosks, nearby counters and railings at around 6am inside the airport’s Terminal 1 on Monday (February 16), before being arrested for possessing Viagra.

The man, who arrived in Hong Kong in November and was intending to buy a ticket to leave, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and for possessing four Viagra pills. Viagra pills are illegal to possess in Hong Kong without a prescription. Those possessing the impotence drug can face up to two years in jail and a £9,400 fine.

“Airport Authority staff and airport security personnel rushed to the scene and warned the man to stop causing further damage,” a spokesperson for the authority said. “Police have arrested the man and launched an investigation.”
