Ruben Amorim stuns fans with surprise appearance after Man Utd exit | Football | Sport
Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has caught fans off guard by turning up at the Qatar Open tennis championship, just over a month after his dismissal. The Portuguese’s exit as United boss was confirmed in January, with him reportedly receiving a £12 million settlement.
During the latter stages, he appeared on the television broadcast of the match, observing proceedings from the spectator seating. The ex-United manager was shown as Alcaraz secured a three-set triumph.
The Spaniard had fallen behind by one set following a tie-breaker, but rallied to claim the second set 6-4 and take the third decisive set 6-3. Following Amorim’s appearance, United supporters flocked to social media to express their astonishment at spotting him. “Did not expect to see Ruben Amorim at a tennis match,” one remarked.
A second commented: “Why is Amorim there lmao.” A third contributed: “What is Ruben Amorim doing watching Alcaraz in Qatar!”
A fourth supporter questioned: “Is Amorim going to take the Qatar national team job?” Another posted: “Just spotted Amorim in the stands watching Carlos Alcaraz versus Khachanov. Dude, just minding his business in Doha.”
Michael Carrick stepped in as interim manager at United following Amorim’s departure, with the former midfielder taking charge until the end of the campaign. The club have remained unbeaten under the 44-year-old’s guidance.

This isn’t the first sighting of Amorim since his departure from United. Shortly after leaving the club, he was photographed strolling through Manchester alongside his wife.
Reports suggest the former manager intends to wait until the season concludes before publicly addressing his stint at Old Trafford. It is understood he has no wish to cause any disruption to the remainder of the campaign under Carrick’s stewardship.
