Tottenham set to lose millions in huge new blow as ‘deal cancelled’ | Football | Sport
The Telegraph reports that one of Tottenham’s longstanding principal sponsors has informed the club their partnership will conclude this summer, irrespective of whether the North London side maintain their Premier League status. Sources are forecasting the financial consequences will run into the ‘tens of millions’ regardless of which division Spurs compete in next season.
The publication states it is aware of which company will be terminating its association next summer, but is unable to disclose the identity due to contractual confidentiality clauses. The arrangement has generated millions for Tottenham over recent years, with additional sponsors reportedly reviewing their own partnership agreements.
Multiple factors are believed to have influenced the key sponsor’s withdrawal, including last season’s strategic decision to prioritise the Europa League over domestic league commitments, according to the report. Ange Postecoglou steered Tottenham to their maiden European trophy, yet the 2024/25 Premier League season saw them finish in 17th position, and they currently sit just one point higher at the time of publication, three points clear of the drop zone.
One source reportedly said: “There has been no explanation from the club or acknowledgement of the domestic performance concerns from the club. Instead, their messaging was focused on the Europa League, which is not the tier of competition global sponsors expect from a so-called ‘elite club’.”
The report highlights a lack of appeal regarding the club’s transfer business in recent campaigns, losing out on targets such as Eberechi Eze to fierce rivals Arsenal, whilst Daniel Levy’s exit from the club is said to have created a ‘leadership vacuum’ at the top. The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has also reportedly attracted criticism, with the quantity of empty seats proving unappealing for commercial partners.
Thomas Frank was dismissed earlier this month following an underwhelming period in charge since his arrival at the club from Brentford. Igor Tudor has been appointed interim head coach until the end of the campaign, with the former Juventus manager set to make his debut in the dugout against Arsenal this weekend.
