Elton John’s Billy Elliot musical confirms 2026 tour with tickets out | Theatre | Entertainment
Billy Elliot is set to return to stages across the nation this year, marking the production’s comeback following an extended absence. The uplifting tale, set in a northern mining community during 1984 and 1985, will be put on at four venues starting this November. The schedule features approximately one month of performances at each location, with Sunderland’s Empire hosting the opening run, before the nationwide tour begins, hitting Manchester, Edinburgh and London in the process.
The Billy Elliot tour is scheduled to continue until July 31, 2027. The show promises to be a production enthusiasts won’t want to miss, as it will be brought to life by the multi-award-winning creative collective responsible for the film’s initial stage adaptation. The team comprises playwright Lee Hall, director Stephen Daldry and choreographer Peter Darling. The musical’s score has been written by Elton John.
John’s soundtrack features beloved hits, such as Expressing Yourself and Electricity.
Discussing the freshly-announced production, composer Elton John and director Stephen Daldry said: “Creating Billy Elliot the Musical was one of the most joyous and inspiring moments of our careers, so to bring the show back for a UK tour and a season in the West End for the first time in over a decade is both incredibly emotional and exciting.
“It’s bold, it’s British, it’s full of heart and the story feels more relevant than ever. We can’t wait for a whole new generation to experience it!”
