TripAdvisor has revealed the world’s best one-of-a-kind beaches – and one UK beach has made it to the top 10. The list includes spots from all over the world and includes two UK beaches in the list overall.

TripAdvisor’s top one-of-a-kind beach is Boulders Beach Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town, South Africa. The coastal spot offers all the desired beach activities, from swimming to strolling, but is also home to African penguins. The animals can be spotted on quiet and early mornings.

But UK residents can reach one of the top beaches in the world without having to travel far. Bamburgh Beach in the UK came in third for TripAdvisor’s list of one-of-a-kind beaches.

This northern coastal spot sits in Northumberland and is famous for its golden sand and iconic Bamburgh Castle, which overlooks the scenic beach.

Visitors can take in the breathtaking views and get involved in popular activities like surfing and kite flying. The Grace Darling Museum is also located nearby, where tourists can discover the story of the Victorian heroine who rescued survivors from a nearby shipwreck.

Other local activities include wildlife watching, golf and exploring the local village’s charming tea rooms.

TripAdvisor’s other top spots in its list of one-of-a-kind beaches include Isola Bella at number two, the stunning spot off the coast of Sicily, Italy, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Empire, Leelanau, Michigan at number four.

The fifth best spot is Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses in Barreirinhas, Brazil. The national park features blue-green freshwater lagoons and bright-white sand dunes. TripAdvisor recommends visiting this spot primarily between May and September.

Others in the top ten of the list include Anakena Beach in Chile, Wai’anapanapa State Park in Hawaii and Canada’s Hopewell Rocks.

Bahía Bioluminiscente in Puerto Rico makes it to the ninth spot while Hot Water Beach in New Zealand takes spot number 10 – a coastal spot named the naturally heated mineral water hiding under the surface of the sand.

TripAdvisor reviewers advise tourists on how to make the most of their visits. One five-star reviewer of Boulders Beach Penguin Colony said: “You might think it’s supposed to be a tourist trap but it’s not. Saw a penguin as soon as we came down to the beach.

The visitor recommended “going down to the beach and not just walking on the wooden decking”.

Another reviewer described UK top spot, Bamburgh Beach, as a “stunning beach with views that stay with you”.

They added: “I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this beach. It is genuinely one of the most impressive stretches of coastline I have visited.

“The entire area is spotlessly clean, the dunes are absolutely lovely, and the beach itself is so vast that even on a busy day it never feels crowded.

“The views of the castle are nothing short of spectacular and add a real sense of character and calm to the whole place.”
