As reported by The Mirror, lip reader Jeremy Freeman noted that Catherine said to her husband “look at the people!” before waving at them and saying: “Hey.”

William appeared to also smile at the crowds and a few minutes later warned his wife “watch your step” as they made their way inside for the star-studded ceremony.

Catherine did not appear to respond to her husband’s three-word warning.

Although William, 43, and Catherine, 44, did not comment on Andrew’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in a public office last week, which he has been released under investigation for, William did hint on how he was feeling about recent matters.

Speaking to the chief executive of BT Group, Allison Kirkby, about the new film Hamnet, William said while he hadn’t seen it as he was not in the right frame of mind.
