Champions League last 16 draw as it stands as Liverpool get tough tie | Football | Sport
The Champions League last-16 line-up is starting to take shape after four teams booked their spots in the next round of the competition. They included Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Bodo/Glimt and Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
Paris Saint-Germain or Monaco
Borussia Dortmund or Atalanta
Newcastle are one of the teams in the most difficult positions, given their last-16 opponents will be one of Chelsea or Barcelona. The Magpies have won once away at Chelsea since 2012, meaning they’d likely have to perform well in the first leg to stand a chance of going through. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s side have already lost to Barcelona this season after drawing them in the league phase of the competition.

For Liverpool, and by extension Spurs, they find themselves in a similarly tricky spot, given their list of opponents are one of: Atletico, Galatasary or Juventus. Atletico secured their spot in the last-16 with a win over Club Brugge on Tuesday, with Galatasary leading 5-2 heading into Wednesday’s second leg vs Juventus. Arne Slot’s side have already lost to Galatasaray this term, and while they did beat Atletico in the league phase, the Spanish outfit did knock Liverpool out at this stage during the 2019/20 season.
