Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay could be set for a reunion with his old teammate Casemiro in the summer transfer window. It comes as the Brazilian has confirmed his exit from Old Trafford at the end of his contract this season, bringing an end to four years with the club.
Man United forked out an initial £60million to sign Casemiro, which could increase to £70million with all of the add-ons, as he was viewed as their solution to issues in the middle of the pitch. While the serial winner from Real Madrid showed glimpses of that quality, there were plenty of question marks over the deal and whether it would work out.
In more recent times, United have seen more consistent performances from the Brazilian, particularly under the stewardship of Michael Carrick. This season, the veteran has been a particular threat in both boxes, scoring five goals in the Premier League and commanding the midfield at the same time.
It may be frustrating for fans that they are only now seeing this quality from Casemiro, but they will have to enjoy those performances while they last. In a few months, the midfielder will be a free agent, and there are a few possible destinations being earmarked.
According to a report from The Sun, the 34-year-old is still keen to continue his playing career in Europe while he looks at his next possible destination. Several leagues could be an option, including a return to La Liga, where he dominated for many years with Real Madrid.
Casemiro still owns a house in the Spanish capital, but that may not be the only country that he could move to when he becomes a free agent. The report states that Italy has been raised as a possible opportunity to continue playing top-level football, having seen his old teammate Luka Modric succeed in joining AC Milan.
That wouldn’t be the only familiar face he would see, should Casemiro join one of the giants in Serie A, as Scott McTominay is currently impressing with Napoli. The 29-year-old helped the Azzurri towards the league title last season, along with being named the club’s player of the year.
McTominay and Casemiro played alongside each other 40 times in midfield for Manchester United, as their careers crossed paths. They won 28 of those games, proving to be a decent partnership, before the exit for the Scottish international was confirmed.

It remains to be seen whether a move to Italy could see him reunite alongside McTominay for Napoli, or whether he would join one of the other teams and take him on in the league. For now, though, it seems as though time is still being taken to figure out the next move.
While Europe appeals to Casemiro, there have also been links with a possible switch to the United States for Major League Soccer. He was recently spotted on holiday with his family in Florida, flying to Miami, but there is no indication that it was to agree on a deal of any kind.
In the meantime, he will be planning his next steps alongside his aim to finish his career with Man United on a high. Carrick was recently full of praise for the star midfielder when speaking to the press, as he said: “I’ve got to say, Case has been fantastic since I came in, really, on and off the pitch.
“Experience is a great thing if you use it in the right way. And again, I think over time, being a senior player here is almost the responsibility of the example and helping the young players, helping the rest of the boys and passing on your experiences in a positive way.
“He’s been top since I came in, in so many ways, and he’s been a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to continuing with him for a few months yet.”
