Full list of 13 countries Foreign Office says ‘do not visit’ | Travel News | Travel
This week has seen waves of violence across Mexico after the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as ‘El Mencho’. The most wanted man in Mexico, his death triggered widespread cartel violence in several areas, including popular tourist spots.
The events have led the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to update its guidance for Brits planning a trip to Mexico, issuing a warning ‘against all but essential travel’ to affected regions across the country.
It has also produced a map showing the areas of Mexico tourists should avoid, which includes the border town of Tijunana, and the Chihuahua region. Anyone with a holiday booked to the country should check out the FCDO advice, which has detailed guidance about which areas of the country need to be avoided.
The FCDO regularly updates its advice pages, especially during dangerous situations such as the violence in Mexico, so Brits should check for updates close to their departure.
Mexico joins a long list of countries where the FCDO advises caution – we take a look at the 13 countries on this list at the time of writing. (It’s worth noting that this advice can change suddenly, so always check the latest FCDO travel advice for a chosen destination before planning or going on a trip).
