A YouTuber who reviewed what he called the cheapest three-course meal in the UK says one thing put a smile on his face after he’d eaten at the venue.

Gary Hanna, who posts under the name Gary Eats on the video sharing platform, went to The Star Bar in Glasgow to experience the three course meal for which he paid just £7 for the privilege.

Following his experience there, he stood outside the venue and gave his verdict on what it had been like and his favourite parts of the experience.

He revealed that his favourite course had not been the roast beef, but had in fact been the another course entirely.

Gary explained: “It is a star. It is an institution here in Glasgow for not the last year, the last 40 years. It’s been doing this offer on the food and I think it’s incredible.

“It is the community spirit and that’s what it’s all about, it’s the community spirit. Yes, the price has gone up, my total bill, £7, love the soup really put a smile on my face.

“Couldn’t do better than the soup. Yeah, it wasn’t the greatest roast beef, but hey, who cares? This is the point, what marks am I going to give it?”

When he asked himself what scare he marks he was going to give it, Gary considered for a moment before deciding to leave it to the viewers to decide. He said: “It’s a food hero, it’s super value, no, I’m bottling it and I am totally bottling, you decide.”

Gary’s review of the Glaswegian pub comes amid a tough time for bars and restaurants in the UK as the cost of living continues to rise, a factor in which is the cost of energy that puts a massive amount of pressure on bars and pubs around UK.

With massive pressure mounting on venues, owners of pub chains have been issuing warnings to the Labour government to do something to help vendors during this difficult time.

One such individual calling for help has been the chief executive of Admiral Taverns Chris Jowsey whose pub chain owns 1,365 venues in the UK.

Although Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in January that pubs would get an emergency relief package to help them deal with increased business rates announced in the Autumn Budget, there are some who believe this won’t be enough.

In an interview with City AM, Mr Jowsey warned that if change didn’t come soon the high street would be under threat.

Highlighting how this wasn’t just a Labour failure, he explained: “Every party over the last 20 years has promised to reform business rates, and none of them has done it.

“This Government has said they are going to do it over the next couple of years, but they need to deliver on that promise. If they continue to tax business rates in the way that they do, then they won’t just kill off pubs, they’ll kill off the high street as well.”

In a statement, a Treasury spokesperson said: “We’re backing the high street with a £4.3bn Budget package to cap big bill hikes – stopping bills rising for over half of business properties.

“Our Plan for Small Business will help SMEs access the tools and support they need to unleash their potential, and later this year we’ll publish a new High Streets Strategy that will build on the £5bn Pride in Place programme to renew our neighbourhoods and high streets.”
