Tottenham in ‘active’ Igor Tudor replacement search ahead of Liverpool decision | Football | Sport
Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be bracing themselves for another managerial change as doubts surrounding Igor Tudor’s future continue. Tudor was brought in by Spurs only last month on an agreement running until the end of the season, but has presided over defeats in all four matches since his arrival.
The latest setback was a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie earlier this week, and Tottenham will now gear up to meet Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
Tudor’s position has been the focus of widespread speculation over recent weeks, and the Atletico defeat has seen the speculation intensify. Now, a new development has surfaced regarding the 47-year-old’s prospects at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Athletic has reported that Tottenham are assessing their alternatives as they formulate a plan should they opt to part ways with Tudor following the match against Liverpool this weekend.
The report suggests that Tottenham are “actively” evaluating multiple prospective contenders who could succeed Tudor in the Spurs dugout should a change be implemented after the weekend.
It has additionally been suggested that it remains uncertain whether Tottenham would seek to appoint another interim manager or look for a candidate to arrive on a permanent basis.
Various contenders have been linked with potentially become manager of Tottenham should Tudor leave the club, including former Everton and Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche.
Dyche was recently at the helm of Forest until his departure from the City Ground last month, and has now been linked with a move to north London.
Tudor addressed the media before Tottenham’s fixture against Liverpool, with the Spurs caretaker manager explaining how challenging he has found recent days following the loss to Atletico.
“Tough, for sure. Not just because of last game, but because of the period and the past,” Tudor said. “Not easy situation, not an easy moment and from other side a big challenge to change things.
“Like everything in life, you can choose how to see the situation. So, you can stay and cry or you can fight. You can be the victim or you can say I can change something. This is the message I want to start and what I told to the players.
“Everyone speaking, everyone has opinions and the life is always how you see it. The bottle is always half empty or half full.
“Here there is nothing full, there is a lot of empty things but difficult moments don’t last forever. It will pass and I believe the players who will take this as a challenge, as an opportunity will stand up with the courage to change things, after this period they will become better people and better players.”
