Roberto De Zerbi’s stance on taking Tottenham job after Liverpool draw | Football | Sport

Roberto De Zerbi reportedly has a clear stance on managing Tottenham this season if Igor Tudor is sacked before the end of his interim spell. The latter was appointed to replace Thomas Frank last month but has endured a disastrous reign in north London. He has failed to win any of his five Premier League games in charge, but managed a draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

It looked like Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick was going to hand the Reds all three points and plunge Tottenham even deeper into relegation trouble. That was until Richarlison scored a dramatic equaliser in the final minute of normal time. It may not be enough to save Tudor’s job, though, with club chiefs reportedly thinking about sacking him after only a few weeks in charge.

They may still decide to relieve the Croatian of his duties and replace him with another manager, who would be tasked with the sole objective of steering the club away from relegation danger.

De Zerbi has been among those linked with Spurs after his exit from Marseille in February, but it seems he won’t be returning to the dugout any time soon.

According to talkSPORT, the former Brighton boss has no interest in managing another club until at least the start of next season. He remains determined to take a break from football matters, as was his intention when leaving Marseille.

It remains to be seen if De Zerbi would be more willing to return for the 2026/27 campaign, with Tottenham likely to be an option should they avoid relegation.

His reluctance to join another club immediately means the north Londoners will be forced to look elsewhere for a stop-gap solution if Tudor is relieved of his duties in the coming days.

Sean Dyche, who was recently sacked by Nottingham Forest, has been tentatively linked with the potential vacancy given his reputation as a specialist in dodging the drop.

After arriving at the course on Friday to watch his horse, Jukebox Man, compete in the prestigious Gold Cup, he was immediately quizzed on the prospect of taking over at Tottenham.

“I doubt it will happen, I can’t see myself [going back],” he initially said. “They’re bang in trouble, I must be truthful. It’s going to be tight at the bottom, isn’t it? Nobody’s going to go in there and suddenly take incredible training sessions.

“They need somebody to go in there and give them a lift and make them believe in themselves. That’s all it’s going to be about now. A little bit of motivation, really. It’s not going to be about getting out and doing any wonderful coaching sessions with them.”

Redknapp was then asked if he would consider returning to Tottenham and replied with a cryptic comment, saying: “They know where I am if they need me.”
