An ‘incredibly moving’ documentary about Amy Winehouse is available to stream now just as her ex-husband sheds light on their tumultuous relationship.
The Grammy Award-winning singer tragically died from alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, aged 27. Before her untimely death, Amy had become known for her deeply moving songs that drew inspiration from her real life.
Now, Blake has revealed behind-the-scenes truths about their relationship in a recent interview on Paul C Brunson’s We Need to Talk podcast. Blake discusses Amy’s public struggle with addiction as well as misconceptions about their relationship dynamic.
He also references the 2015 documentary titled AMY, which he praised for being a “fair” portrayal of what was going on in Amy’s life, reports the Mirror.

Directed by Oscar winner Asif Kapadia, the film uses archival footage and personal accounts to paint “an intimate portrait of the life and career of British singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse”.
It was an instant hit with critics and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers also praised the biopic, awarding it a rare 96% score.
Their assessment states: “As riveting as it is sad, Amy is a powerfully honest look at the twisted relationship between art and celebrity – and the lethal spiral of addiction.”
Cinema-goers were similarly moved by the poignant exploration of Amy’s journey. “The Best Documentary of one of my and I think the world’s [favourite] artists. Absolutely devastating,” wrote one viewer.
Another audience member remarked: “It’s very rarely that I will give a documentary five stars but this is a stunning picture. It’s savagely tragic and heart rending. What a talent and character Amy Winehouse was and her descent is pictured perfectly.”
