Tourists ‘book early flights home’ from Tenerife due to unlikely issue | Europe | Travel
UK tourists visiting a popular holiday destination say they’ve been “booking early flights home” as their vacations have been impacted by an unlikely issue. While people hope to travel abroad to soak up the sun, relax and enjoy some much needed downtime, sometimes things don’t always go as planned – no matter how much we want them to.
Brits in Tenerife recently learnt this as some implied their holidays were “ruined” as the result of an unlikely problem. Various videos have gone viral on TikTok where people expressed their disappointment when visiting the destination over the past few weeks, and it’s taken many by surprise.
A man, known as Gazza online, shared a video of his recent holiday, stating: “Come here every year and this is the first bad downpour experience.” He also noted the weather had been “brutal” for four days as it had rained so much.
The clip has since been viewed thousands of times, and it got hundreds of people talking too. Many people seem to have had similar experiences.
One said: “Had wind, clouds and cold one year for four days out of the seven. Never went back.” Another added: “I was there last week and got an early flight home.”
Gazza replied to this comment, saying: “Was debating it too.” Meanwhile, a third replied: “I just got back. It was mental.”
A different person also wrote: “It’s been almost a week!!! Everywhere/everything closed!!!” One more also noted: “That’s pretty unlucky. I would feel gutted.”
Others claimed they had a great time when visiting though. Some seemed to have a different experience.
One person shared: “It’s heaven. Chill.” Another added: “Here at the moment and not that bad. People need to chill out.”
Someone else also chimed in with: “Still rather be there than here. It’s the getting away that matters.”
What’s been happening?
While it’s unusual for Tenerife to see a lot of rain in March, a storm has hit the Canary Islands recently. Storm Therese is reported to have wreaked havoc on the Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife and La Palma, with an unexpected mix of heavy rain, 100 km/h (62 mph) winds and even snowfall at high altitudes.
In fact, authorities confirmed it was one of the most severe storms to batter the archipelago in more than 10 years. This may explain why some people experienced so much rain during their trips.
However, the good news is, things seem to be improving. The forecast currently predicts the weather will be sunny over the next few days.
Not to mention, some days could see highs of up to 26 degrees. Perhaps this is why some people have reported the weather has improved recently.
One person said: “It’s sunny now.” Another wrote: “I’m just back yesterday. Was there for a week. We had a ball even with the storm and rain.”
