Casemiro speaks out on staying at Man Utd after contract agreement reached | Football | Sport

Casemiro is expecting an emotional farewell when he departs Manchester United at the season’s end, stating that he doesn’t foresee the decision to leave Old Trafford being overturned. United declared in January that the Brazilian midfielder would be waving goodbye to Old Trafford when his contract concludes at the end of the season. However, he has featured in all 10 matches under Michael Carrick and has been performing exceptionally well for the club.

Fans were heard chanting ‘one more year, one year more year, Casemiro’ following his display against Aston Villa earlier this month. There is no suggestion that United are willing to resume contract discussions, though, and speaking after Brazil’s friendly with France on Thursday evening, the 34-year-old expressed his belief that the decision had been finalised and that he was bracing for an emotional conclusion to his four years at the club.

“I am still enjoying it a lot (in Manchester),” Casemiro told The Athletic post-match. “I believe the announcement is now done. It is huge, the affection that the fans have shown towards me.

“But I do really believe the decision is made and done. I am enjoying myself right now. I believe it will be some difficult (emotional) moments, these (final) games at Manchester United.”

Casemiro has experienced a turbulent spell at Old Trafford, but appears to be concluding it positively from an individual perspective, with his latest performances demonstrating that he retains his quality.

He has benefited from the reduced fixture list this campaign, with United competing in just 40 matches.

But following an impressive period under Carrick, the club are poised to secure Champions League qualification, which will bring increased demands next season.

There is also uncertainty surrounding who will occupy the manager’s position for 2026/27, with Carrick establishing himself as the frontrunner.

Casemiro was effusive in his admiration for the 44-year-old, who has collected 23 points from a potential 30 since replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis.

“Above all, Michael is a specialist in my position on the field, he was a truly great player,” he said. “That makes everything much easier and he is always talking to us.

“I feel like we are in a good dynamic right now in Manchester and my objective now is to get the club back into the Champions League.”
