Two significant fires have broken out in Abu Dhabi after missiles were intercepted overhead by air defence systems.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office has confirmed that two blazes ignited near the Khalifa Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi on March 28. The fires were triggered by debris falling from the sky, according to authorities.
A spokesperson for the Abu Dhabi Media Office said: “The competent authorities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are handling the two incidents of fires that broke out in the vicinity of the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi – KEZAD areas, resulting from the fall of debris following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defenses, and you will be provided with updates as soon as they become available.
“The competent authorities urge the public to obtain information from official sources only, and to avoid circulating rumors or unverified information.”
The Khalifa Economic Zones are situated between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Gulf News, it has been confirmed that five individuals of Indian nationality sustained minor to moderate injuries.
This follows an earlier incident in which two people lost their lives after debris from an intercepted ballistic missile plummeted onto a street in Abu Dhabi, destroying vehicles and leaving three others injured.
The incident took place on Sweihan street – a major highway linking key areas of the city – in the early hours of this morning.
Debris from the missile, intercepted by air defence systems, rained down, causing damage to a number of vehicles.
